The Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is based in the heart of central and south London. It includes the Cicely Saunders Institute for Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, the premier Institute for Palliative Care, bringing together clinical, research and education teams.

About the role
We are looking for a Research Associate with experience in qualitative interviewing and qualitative analyses. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conduct of interviews (remotely via Teams) with clinical staff and patients as well as lead on the data analysis. These interviews and data collection are part of process evaluations of large randomised controlled trials funded by the NIHR.
These process evaluations relate to trials in respiratory failure in critically ill patients or with COPD. However, we do not require specific familiarity with these patient groups or the interventions being evaluated. An understanding of trial process evaluations would be beneficial.
This is a part time post (17.5 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 28 February 2026.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• PhD qualified in relevant subject area *
• Ability to work well as an effective member of teams and networks and to share and encourage good practice in teaching and research and to inspire and motivate others, including in challenging environments
• Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, in all formats, face to face, presentation, email, reports, written and for teaching
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills, underpinned by strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness, able to deliver high quality work and projects to deadlines, work efficiently and prioritise appropriately, and take individual responsibility for planning and undertaking work, with knowledge of education methods and approaches, including emerging digital learning
• Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students
• Experience in qualitative research methods

• Experience in process evaluations
• Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
