ABOUT THE ROLE
Do you want to be at the forefront of the next industrial revolution? We have an exciting opportunity for you to develop software for additive manufacturing/3D Printing technology and push the frontiers of smart digital manufacturing and industry 4.0.
Additive manufacturing (AM) is revolutionising how real-world products are designed and made by enabling better performing and more efficient designs with reduced manufacturing waste, lower cost, and shorter lead times. It is a key emerging technology enabling innovation in many sectors, from clean energy to healthcare, aerospace, and automotive. However, for sectors to benefit from all AM has to offer it is necessary to demonstrate that AM parts are of the highest quality.
We are looking for a researcher with a background in data analysis and software development to join our multidisciplinary team with the aim to validate material quality on-the-fly and move towards a qualify-as-you-build paradigm where each printed part comes with a digital defect twin to assure quality.
WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
You will be helping to develop and validate AI-powered software to provide quality assurance for additively manufacturing parts. You will be supporting the development of data pipelines, processing large data sets to interpret trends, performing statistical analysis to correlate material properties to process data and developing dashboards to visualise results. The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in supporting the development of multimodal AI for digital manufacturing.
Funded by Imperial’s UKRI Impact Acceleration Account, you will help mature this technology towards a commercially viable product and formation of a spin-out.
