About the role
Professor Jernje Ule is seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and organised research associates to his research group working on the mechanisms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in RNA binding proteins. The group focuses on transcriptomic approaches to study RNP assembly and its defects in disease.You will contribute to the project by studying RNA condensates that contribute to the regulation of gene expression by;
Using methods such as transcriptomics, proteomics and imaging
Establishing new techniques
Producing relevant publications.
The Ule Lab is highly collaborative. You will join a multidisciplinary team on the Denmark Hill Campus with a leading role in:
Designing and performing experiments
Developing technical advances
Performing data analysis
resenting the results
Writing up manuscripts to be submitted to peer-review journals
You will be given opportunities to work closely with a broad range of other scientists across the UK DRI.

The posts will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 1 year.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- PhD awarded in Molecular Biology or a related discipline
- Experience in molecular biology and transcriptomics
- Advanced experience in cell biology, neuronal differentiation and advanced imaging
- Experience in establishment of new methods
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with proximity proteomics
- Experience with single-molecule RNA imaging.
- Experience with computational analyses of transcriptomic, proteomic and/or imaging data
Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
