About us:
The overall goal of the Department of Health Service & Population Research (HSPR) is to conduct world-leading research and education using the social and health sciences to better understand and to improve health outcomes, systems, and care both locally and globally, with particular focus on disadvantaged and marginalised populations.
HSPR is multi-disciplinary, including health care professionals, epidemiologists, economists, implementation scientists, qualitative methodologists, service users, social scientists, and statisticians. We work with academic, clinical, and policy organisations locally in London and the UK, and internationally in low, middle, and high-income countries.
About the role:
An experienced and highly motivated Research Associate is required for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) National Priorities Programme in mental health, including children and young people. The aim of the programme is to catalyse and evaluate the co-produced implementation of high impact, evidence-based mental health interventions, at key stages of the life course, supra-regionally or nationally.
The Mental Health Implementation Network is led by NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London, working closely with NIHR ARC East of England as well as the other 13 ARCs nationally.

The post holder will provide research support across the three selected ARC projects:

• Improving access to mental health services for minority ethnic communities
• Children and young people’s mental health – parent-led Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
• Integrated protocols for substance use, mental and physical health problems

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31st March 2025.

About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Good quality PhD in behavioural or social sciences, mental health, or in a discipline with a mental health-related orientation.
2. Post-Doctoral level training in applied health research methods, excellent data collection and analysis skills, and experience of conducting and reporting mixed-methods research or evaluation projects.
3. Experience of conducting evidence syntheses (e.g. systematic reviews, meta-analyses) and evidence appraisal.
4. Track record of working with stakeholders in different organisational structures including patients, service users and carers.
5. Evidence of excellent academic writing preferably published in peer-reviewed journals as expected by the subject area/discipline in terms of types and volume of outputs.
6. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to different audiences, including evidence of ability to produce clear, non-technical writing (e.g. for non-academic audiences.
Desirable criteria
1. Record of supervising, appraising, coaching and mentoring of research students.
2. Experience of writing and submitting research grant proposals for academic research.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
