Position Summary:

The Research Associate works in collaboration with the Research Supervisor to develop and conduct research projects and is responsible for designing and achieving the project’s objectives. As required, the Research Associate is responsible for the functional supervision of Undergraduates and Graduate Research Assistants.

  • Develops and conducts research projects on the computational- and circuit-basis of visual feature representation. Will also develop protocols, processes and procedures as delegated by the Research Supervisor. Techniques and experiments performed by the RA include:
  • Cranial window surgeries
  • Stereotaxic viral delivery
  • Behavioral training
  • In vivo two-photon imaging
  • Mouse husbandry
  • Genotyping
  • Computational analysis
  • Histological studies
  • Confocal imaging
  • Establishes the design and development of research methods, data collection and analysis, and the interpretation of results.
  • Plans and leads the development of experiments, questionnaires, the recruitment and training of interviewers, data collection, test administration, conducting interviews, planning and preparation of research documentation, laboratory work, and compilation of data.
  • Develops and implements new methods of analysis or research.
  • Leads the analysis and interpretation of research data and disseminates the results. Writes research reports.
  • Writes theoretical or methodological reports, papers or articles related to research activities.
  • Prepares and writes grant applications.
  • Responsible for the quality and results of their own work and the work of those they oversee.
  • Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of research staff and participates in their training, including Research Assistants and Student Research Assistants
  • Performs various administrative tasks related to the project including posting code to online respositories, interacting with vet staff, placing orders for viral and surgical reagents, etc.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in neuroscience
  • 5 years of relevant research experience
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, python, labview, as well as use of DLC and other AI-based analysis methods.
  • Experience with cranial window implants, stereotaxic injections and other surgical approaches
  • Experience with in vivo two-photon microscopy
