Hiring Unit:
Department of Chemistry
Position Summary:
- Apply surface analytical techniques of SEM, TEM and XPS in combination with FTIR, PXRD, TGA, and TGA-FTIR-GC-MS to determine physical and chemical transformations.
- Conduct analyses, interpret the data, and write and present reports on the findings.
- Characterization of nanoscale interfaces (electron microscopy, infrared vibrational and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy).
- Conduct research that includes formulation of magnetic fluids, chemical modification of magnetic particle surfaces.
- Report writing.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- The individual is a team player who is qualified to understand and operate state-of-the-.art instruments required to characterize magnetorheological fluids.
- Fluent in oral and written English.
Experience and education:
- PhD degree or equivalent with knowledge of magnetic properties of magnetorheological fluids, physics of magnetism, chemical extraction, and preparation techniques involving magnetic particles.
- Demonstrated experience with SEM, TEM, XPS, FTIR, PXRD, TGA, and TGA-FTIR-GC-MS, data collection and analysis.
- Knowledge of the physics and chemistry of magnetic oxide nanoparticles is considered an asset.

This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.
