Job Title:
Research Associate
Summary:
As a Research Associate on our Naturals Technology team, you will collaborate closely with synthetic chemists to help create new and innovative technologies in beauty and personal care. We are seeking a motivated individual who is eager to master techniques for reactions ranging from small-scale to 5kg scale and is comfortable working in a hood. Additionally, you will follow and develop instrumental test methods to evaluate the chemical and physical properties of personal care ingredients. Additional responsibilities include assisting the team in maintaining labs according to site safety and ISO standards, maintaining lab inventory, organizing files in SharePoint, and assisting in the shipping of samples.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Under direct supervision, conduct synthesis experiments for new polymers in glassware or metal reactors.
  • Prepare chemical samples and perform instrumental testing according to established guidelines.
  • Generate and record appropriate data, perform calculations, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Effective management of multiple tasks as per priority laid by scientists.
  • Maintain a safety mindset and focus.
  • Contribute to the development of new materials for the Beauty Personal Care segment
  • Contribute to the safety teams and aid in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Purchase chemicals and lab disposables.
  • Make sure the chemical inventory is up to date.
  • Receive packages and ship samples.
  • Complete routine instrument cleaning and maintenance and contact vendor when repair is needed.
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping, organization, and lab safety.
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or Engineering with 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting OR a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of organic chemistry with the ability to carry out synthetic experiments.
  • Working knowledge of standard personal computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.)
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Self-motivated individual with a high level of technical curiosity.

The following are preferred for this role

  • Basic knowledge of cosmetic and personal care ingredients.
  • Highly detail-oriented and analytical.
  • Proven technical problem-solving ability.
  • Technical writing capability and be familiar with validations and qualifications.
  • Capable of operating complex instrumentation with limited supervision.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing lab equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, turn, lift, and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Reaching, feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight, and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wear personal protective equipment, and the ability to pass a fit test and wear a respirator is required for most positions.
