Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING | NGĀ WHĀINGA MATUA

You will work to advance foundational knowledge in fish cell culture and develop innovative applications of fish cell lines. By focusing on the cultivation and use of fish cells, this role aims to support and improve fish health in aquaculture, addressing challenges in sustainability and disease management.

Additionally, the position will explore the integration of cell-based technologies in cellular agriculture, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in alternative protein sources and aquaculture innovation. The work will include:

  • Conduct research in the areas of fish cell biology including isolation, culture and characterisation of cells with subsequent applications.
  • Co-ordinate resources and equipment and day-to-day delivery of the research projects to produce outcomes.
  • Support the production of peer reviewed scientific publications.
  • Contribute to regular progress reports and draft scientific publications and/or client reports to meet internal and/or client expectations.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in molecular/cell biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience - ideally in an R&D environment.
  • An organized and systematic approach to tasks and commitments with high-level of attention to detail and a proactive mind-set.
  • Able to work both independently with minimum supervision but also as an efficient team member.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan work schedules to meet agreed deadlines
