  • Knowledge and experience of usable security, human factors in security or other human-centered studies in security.
  • Strong understanding of conducting studies with security workers.
  • Demonstrated experience of research methods, especially qualitative research methods or field studies – from study design through to analysis and synthesis methods.
  • Strong understanding of research ethics pertaining to studies with human participants.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

Join the Bristol Cyber Security Group, led by Professor Awais Rashid at the University of Bristol. Recognised as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research by the NCSC and EPSRC, we are on the lookout for candidates to become integral members of our SCULI research programme, focused on securing ultra-large scale infrastructures.
The infrastructures in focus are both current critical national infrastructures and emerging future systems, e.g., smart cities, intelligent transportation, high-value manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Cyber security of such ultra-large scale infrastructures faces unprecedented complexity.
With confirmed funding for the next 24 months, this full-time, open-ended position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading institutions like the Universities of Oxford and Lancaster, as well as a network of industry and international partners.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

We are seeking candidates with a robust background in human-centered approaches to security such as those experienced in usable security or studying human factors in security. Candidates should also have a strong and demonstrated experience of studying security workers and their challenges/practices as well as strong methodological expertise with qualitative research methods and/or field studies.
