OTHER REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER FACTORS:

Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor. May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or on-call duty. Provides quality customer service to internal and external customers/clients.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of relevant research experience in a laboratory.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent academic track record and self-motivated
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Attention to details

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recent PhD (within 3 years) in neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics, or related field.
  • Experience with mouse models and primary cell cultures.
  • Experience with lab techniques such as immunohistochemistry, cell cultures, molecular biology, and cell biology.
  • Knowledge and skills in neurobiology, immunology, cell biology, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and independently design and conduct experiments that contribute to the overall research focus of the lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Designs, plans and conducts experiments with mouse models and primary cell cultures. Performs a wide range of experimental approaches including cellular and molecular biology, immunofluorescence microscopy, FACS, and transgenic animal models is used. Leads one or more research projects.
  • Data Analysis: Collects and analyzes experimental data
  • Publication: Reports and publishes research findings. Assists with research proposal preparation
  • Lab management and student training: Provides general lab management and supervision of undergraduate students and research assistants. Performs other duties as assigned.
