Research Communications Officer

About the role
As the Research Communications Officer, you will contribute to a variety of projects that increase the Centre’s external presence across a range of audiences, including to schools, government, and the community. You will work closely with the ARC Centre Chief Operating Officer, Manager of Communications and Engagement, and Outreach and Partnerships Officer in seeking broader community exposure of the Centre’s research outcomes and activities and developing additional enhancements to outreach programs offered by the Centre.
The position is situated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. The Centre is a significant international, multidisciplinary and multi-institutional project. It consists of nine university nodes, The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Swinburne University, University of Melbourne, Western Sydney University, QUT, Queensland University, University of Sydney and UNSW Sydney.
In this varied role, you will:
- Support the development and implementation of a strategic communications, outreach and engagement plan for the Centre.
- Support the coordination of internal and external events, both in-person and online, including event management, promotion and logistics.
- Coordinate the promotion of Centre research to government, industry and schools, using a range of digital communications channels.
- Contribute to the production, distribution and monitoring of media and social media content such as promotional videos, explainer videos, podcasts, interviews, event recordings.
- Provide business and administrative support to the ARC Centre Chief Operating Officer and contribute to the Centre as part of the Operations team.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

A degree in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, broadcasting/video production or event management; or extensive experience in relevant roles, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience or education/training.
- Demonstrated experience in program or events management and a commitment to the delivery of quality service to event participants.
- Strong skills in video production and editing, graphic design, and/or an up to date working knowledge of using social media in a professional and/or academic context.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills consistent with dealing with a diverse range of people in and a commitment to quality service, including the ability to work as part of a small team.
- A high level of self-motivation and initiative and an ability to provide creative solutions to problems.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
