Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • Health related BA/BS (e.g. physical therapy, physical therapy assistant, etc.) and at least 5 years of experience or advanced degree and 3 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal nine years.
  • Knowledge, skills and applied experience in:
  • Working successfully with communities who experience social and health disparities because of race, ethnicity or income.
  • Effectively communicating verbally and in writing, to support the needs of diverse and multicultural individuals and groups.
  • Working in a community based research setting.
  • Following study protocols and procedures associated with large complex research studies.
  • Applying human subjects research protections and handling sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality, and in compliance with HIPAA, state and federal regulations for conducting research on humans.
  • Facilitating evidence based pain and health related education programs.
  • Health related public speaking.
  • Event planning, organization and implementation.
  • Reporting and document study records.
  • Working with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Working cooperatively as part of a team, as well as independently with little supervision.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, skills and applied experience in:
  • Working on large federally funded or similar scientific projects.
  • Applying advanced social media skills.
  • Public health with an associated degree (completed or in progress).
  • Delivering pain rehabilitation programs.
  • Basic Life Support certification within the last 2 years.

The University of Minnesota’s Integrative Health & Wellbeing Research Program at the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing invites applications for a 75% appointment as a Research Community Coordinator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Funded Study: Partners For Pain and Wellbeing Equity. A Randomized Trial of Community Supported Complementary and Integrative Health Self-management for Back Pain.This position will work under the direction of the study Principal Investigators to build trusting relationships with community members and support engagement, recruitment and intervention implementation efforts associated with the Partners For Pain and Wellbeing Equity Study. This project is funded by the National Institutes of Health’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative and is a collaboration between University researchers and community partners including the YMCA of the North, the YWCA St. Paul, the Hue-MAN Partnership, NorthPoint Health & Wellness, and the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center. The goal of the project is to develop and assess new community supported programs for pain management for people who are often left out of research and who experience health disparities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 40% As part of a multidisciplinary team, devise and implement plans to recruit members from the communities of study focus including NIH-designated health disparity populations who have been underrepresented in research including those marginalized and minoritized due to race, ethnicity and income. Includes but is not limited to:
  • Participating in community events (e.g. tabling, volunteering, etc.)
  • Participating in media events (e.g. radio, television shows, podcasts, etc.)
  • Developing culturally sensitive study materials in collaboration with community partners and study investigators and ensuring timeline distribution.
  • Coordinating and implementing study sponsored informational events to raise awareness and interest in the study.
  • 20% Meet and develop relationships with community partners to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • 30% Perform screening and data collection activities and lead weekly group intervention sessions according to study protocols and procedures in partner sites across the Twin Cities metro area.
  • 10% Foster positive relational alliances and create a welcoming and respectful environment for participants and other staff members.
