Job Summary:
Coordinate research requests for the Department of Pathology. Manage the slide scanning process for the Department of Pathology for use in research, education and patient care through tumor boards.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Healthcare Administration or related field. Two years of experience related to healthcare, laboratory, clinical research, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: N/A
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
General knowledge of the field of pathology. Familiar with MHR/Epic systems. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with Microsoft software products such as Excel, Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Collects research requests forms, validates the request, confers with the pathologist to start the request fulfillment process.
  • Documents and initiates the research request workflow through and Epic research order entry process and orders slides and stains.
  • Coordinates the fulfillment of the request with archives, the gross room, and the histology.
  • Completes the request by getting approvals for the fee schedule and providing the end product to the principal investigator.
  • Maintains excel spreadsheet to capture workflow and reconcile with Epic.
  • Utilizes the high-capacity Philips slide scanner and to scan slides (digitize the slides), evaluate the slides for focus.
  • Maintains the organization for the slides in the Philips Image Management system.
  • Maintains users and access to the image management system.
  • Supports policy review and annual updates related to the research coordination.
