MAIN FUNCTIONS

The Lallemand Biofuels and Distilled Spirits (LBDS) laboratory is looking for a motivated candidate to join their research team and work on the isolation, identification, and characterization of microbial strains for the distilled spirits industry. The trainee selected for the position will work under a researcher within the R&D team to support lab activities such as performing small-scale batch fermentations and distillations, analysing the resulting products by HPLC and gas chromatography, performing classical microbiological techniques and participating in sensory sessions to evaluate distilled spirit properties. The candidate will also be expected to conduct housekeeping tasks within the laboratory.
This is an exciting and varied role which would suit both graduates from a relevant degree (e.g. microbiology, biochemistry, chemistry) or those currently working towards a degree, who would be capable of undertaking a period of absence from their studies. This role would suit candidates who are looking to expand their laboratory skills, gain exposure to working in a small team environment and experience being part of industry-leading commercial research.
