Job Description Summary
Engineering staff position to support the activities of MSE in the areas of metals manufacturing, metals production equipment design and build, and executing activities for externally sponsored MSE/IMP research.
Responsibilities
1. Support MSE and IMP research projects, users, and infrastructure
a. Advance current external research and help to increase external research activity in MSE
b. Collaborate with faculty and research to grow the use of the facility
2. Supporting laboratory instruction in MSE
3. Commitment to continuous learning and improvement and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
4. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related design and manufacturing field
Required Experience
Two years of experience in metals manufacturing in an industrial environment, such as metal casting or thermo-mechanical processing.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
1. Ability to plan and execute research and development pilot-scale manufacturing set-up and materials production
2. Organizational skills to set-up and maintain high-tech materials research labs
3. Interest and aptitude for teaching materials manufacturing labs
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
1. Demonstrated ability to design, manufacture, and launch materials production equipment for pilot-scale processes
a. CAD, FEA analysis, and design optimization
b. Material selection and working with machinists and suppliers
c. Assembly and prove-out of new material production equipment
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff
3. Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment

Experience working in or managing a complex, multi-user manufacturing facilities.
