Description:

As part of the transceiver research team, you will be involved in research projects aiming at pushing the performance, cost and energy efficiency of integrated radio components, transceiver circuits and digital signal processing for multi-antenna wireless systems. Your main mission will be to carry out fundamental research in RFIC transceiver design for 6G, covering analog as well as digital (i.e., mixed-mode) RFICs as well as monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC). Within the BLCR, you will interact with researchers and engineers from multiple domains; that is, RF experts, DSP designers, link/system-level simulation experts, as well as with people from the business division working on the development of products.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A PhD degree in electronic (RF) circuit design or equivalent,
  • Fundamental understanding of advanced transceiver concepts such as the polar transmitter and the fully-digital transmitter,
  • Strong experience with analog/mixed-mode RFIC designs (including MMICs), ranging from conceptualization and detailed design to implementation, and lab-verification; ideally with a good track record of successfully completed (ASIC) projects,
  • Good knowledge in power amplifier (PA) concepts such as Doherty PAs, Load Modulated Balanced PAs (LMBA), out-phasing PAs,
  • Excellent familiarity with simulation tools such as ADS, CST MWS, Cadence, HFSS, Altium Designer,
  • Solid practical skills in developing low-level software (C/C++) and digital hardware (VHDL or Verilog),
  • Able to collaborate both with the immediate team as well as others in the larger Bell Labs community as needs arises,
  • Highly engaged and hands-on personality, versatile and a self-starter, and being able to think out-of-the-box,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; can express yourself fluently in English. German language skills are helpful but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out research in transceiver and digital frontend design, with a focus on multi-antenna systems for 6G,
  • Design, simulation and development of (cm- & mm-wave) RFIC designs, including analog and mixed-mode MMIC designs,
  • Integrate new RFIC designs into proof-of-concept systems, to verify and demonstrate new radio technologies and components,
  • Generate intellectual property through patents,
  • Disseminate research internally and externally through customer focused presentations, conference and journal publications,
  • Engage and collaborate with universities and customers on joint research projects.
