Description:

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline (PhD is an asset) and three (3) years of experience in writing and reviewing grant applications and contracts. The candidate must be familiar with national granting councils and other major sponsors of university research in Canada.
  • Specific knowledge of the university’s systems for administering the financial, legal, and ethical aspects of university research is strongly encouraged.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with the university’s research community across all disciplines: Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Have excellent organizational and time management skills and have experience managing and coordinating a high volume of diverse activities under tight deadlines. An ability to adapt to changing priorities is essential.
  • Be respectful, tactful and diplomatic.
  • Be prepared to manage governance timelines and processes.
  • Have the desire to grow and advance skills, demonstrated by attending conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team setting.
  • Comfort with technology and an advanced knowledge of all common Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, and other business process management products are required.
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising faculty members on the applicable policies, procedures and guidelines of the university and external sponsors;
  • Assisting faculty with the development of grant proposals and providing advice for changes and/or improvement;
  • Working with Financial Services to manage and administer institutional funds;
  • Pre- and post-award administration, including opening research accounts, tracking timelines for renewal, and ensuring the submission of reports to granting agencies;
  • Managing and coordinating internal grant competitions;
  • Communicating with granting agencies as appropriate;
  • Communicating with the broader research community on research activities and successes and;
  • Contributing to strategy development around increasing success rates and research-related revenue generation
