Job Requirements
The successful candidate will hold a thesis-based Master’s degree in any discipline, and will have personally conducted research, applied for grants, and produced peer-reviewed scholarly output. The candidate must have a multi-disciplinary mindset, and an appreciation for the research possibilities inherent within all disciplines, professions, and trades. At least four years of research facilitation experience in a university setting is required, but a combination of experience and qualifications will be considered. Completion of the CARA Research Administration Certificate is expected within the first two years of employment.
Other necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
- A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
- Experience working in an academic environment (department, faculty, institute/lab, research services office); postsecondary teaching experience is an asset.
- Aptitude for respectful client service, including excellent communications and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong relationships.
- Understanding of research-specific financial and regulatory compliance protocols.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (full suite) is required; familiarity with online reporting systems (eg: Matador, GSAP) is preferred; experience with analytical packages (eg: SAS, SPSS) is an asset.
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
The Research Facilitator is a uniquely skilled academic professional who promotes a culture of responsive, meaningful, and productive applied research and innovation. They do so by helping the institution assemble the monetary and other resources needed to support scholarly work that contributes to institutional credibility, encourages academic staff learning and student skills development, and addresses regional societal and industry needs. The Facilitator’s work includes identifying appropriate funding opportunities; advising and guiding researchers on proposal submissions, project budgets, and research ethics requirements; aiding principal investigators in fulfilling financial reporting and knowledge translation requirements; and brokering inter-institutional and industry/community research partnerships. The position fills secondary roles in tracking and reporting institution wide research activity; conducting independent research on institutional and community needs and trends; mentoring new faculty and student researchers in the conduct of research; and, assisting departments in the hiring of academic staff to ensure scholarly alignment with NWP’s Signature Areas of Research.
