Description:

In Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, we have an opening for a postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the field of machine learning modeling and process control, including but not limited to deep learning-based predictive modeling, soft sensing, estimation, advanced process control, and optimization solutions for industrial manufacturing processes by leveraging control theory, data analytics, machine learning, optimization, graph theory, information theory, etc.
There will be extensive opportunities for successful candidate to collaborate with reputable researchers in the field worldwide on theoretical research, and with practitioners from multinational industrial companies to deliver solutions to real-world industrial problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-quality research on machine learning modeling, soft sensing, and optimal control with application to various water systems (e.g., wastewater treatment, desalination, etc.)
  • Prepare grant proposals and project reports
  • Program using Python and test theoretical findings via computer simulations
  • Test the methods via lab experiments
  • Publish results in top-tier journals in related fields
  • Assist in mentoring PhD students

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in control systems engineering, process control, machine learning or a related field
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art machine learning, control theory and methods, optimization, applied mathematics
  • Expertise in AI-based modeling, state estimation, model of large-scale uncertain systems, networked control systems, and/or experience in applying machine learning in water systems systems
  • Advanced skills in Python, Matlab, etc.
  • Outstanding track record of research in the corresponding field demonstrated by an excellent publication record
  • Advanced written and communication skills
