Description:
Applications are invited from experts in high-voltage test systems and high-voltage engineering to join an academic-industry collaboration between the University of Manchester, Pfisterer and National Grid Electricity Transmission.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher to build on their existing research skills by being part of the inter-compatible CAble REpair Part 2 (iCARE2) Project.
The iCARE2 Project looks to develop a ‘Universal Joint’ that would reduce the significant costs and time associated with cable repairs. The demand for a ‘Universal Joint’ is likely to increase over the coming months/years due to an increasing number of cable installations and an ageing fleet of cable assets. This full-time post is available as soon as possible and is fixed-term for 24 months.
The appointed post holder will be responsible to Dr Lujia (Tony) Chen and will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of research activities related to the iCARE2 Project, a multi-disciplinary project with partners from both industry and academia. The appointed candidate will have expertise in materials selection and characterisation methods specifically related to high-voltage applications, as well as knowledge on the fabrication and testing of dielectric materials.
The post holder will focus on designing, developing and maintaining high-voltage test systems for carrying out experimental research on cable connector design.
