Description:
POST SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised Research Fellow, who will act as Clinical Programme Coordinator to work on an innovative project funded via the Enterprise Ireland Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund (DTIF). The candidate will be required to lead a clinical study and oversee recruitment of patients, management of data collection and trial methodology. The study (LILAC), funded, seeks to develop and deliver safe and effective technology to aid with the prevention of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The postholder will be based in the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute located on the campus of St James’s Hospital. The ideal candidate will thrive in a multidisciplinary environment working with scientists, clinical staff, and industry collaborators.
LILAC PROJECT SUMMARY
Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) is the most debilitating side effect of cancer treatment and often results in permanent disability. The condition occurs in 68% of chemotherapy patients and involves damage to the sensory and motor nerves of the hand and feet, severely impacting the patient’s long term quality of life. Because no solution exists to diagnose or prevent CIPN, the only viable mechanism to deal with CIPN is to reduce or discontinue vital chemotherapy treatment. Despite the widespread prevalence of the condition and the serious impact of the CIPN on both cancer treatment and long-term quality of life, no safe and effective technology exists for the prevention of CIPN. This is precisely what our research project aims to deliver as part of the LILAC DTIF Project.
