Description:

ABOUT US

The Reeves lab is housed in the new state of the art £55m Institute of immunity & Transplantation with close links to the Royal Free hospital – a major transplant centre. Our lab is interested in human cytomegalovirus – a major pathogen in immune-compromised people – with interests that span basic science through to translational applications. In particular, we have a longstanding interest in deciphering the molecular details of the host and viral mechanisms that control lifelong latency and reactivation; key immunological functions important for control of HCMV (in collaboration with Mark Wills, Cambridge); and the identification of novel targets for an effective HCMV vaccine.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE A SUPPORTING STATEMENT TELLING US, USING EXAMPLES, HOW YOU MEET THE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA LISTED IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT A SUPPORTING STATEMENT WILL BE REJECTED.

If you have any queries about the role or application process, have any technical issues, or need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, please contact the staffing team at hr.ii@ucl.ac.uk.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The specific role is supported by an MRC programme grant and will investigate the role of a viral deSUMOylase (LUNA) expressed during latency with a view to understanding how this protein re-programmes the host cell to support latency. It will combine reductionist approaches with system-wide proteomic approaches to characterise the function of this protein.
In addition, the post holder will be to work closely with colleagues in Cambridge to understand the immunological implications of these observations viz. the immune control and targeting of viral latency.
The position is available for 3 years in the first instance.

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:

  • 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days)
  • Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme
  • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Immigration loan
  • Relocation scheme for certain posts
  • On-Site nursery
  • On-site gym
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service
  • Discounted medical insuranc
