JOB SUMMARY
A Research Lab Technician position is available in the laboratories of Dr. Peng Li and Dr. Wenjing Wang at the Life Sciences Institute of the University of Michigan. We are looking for an organized individual with a background in molecular biology and neurobiology to apply novel chemical tools in in vivo mouse model. You will perform rodent surgeries and histological analysis to examine the application of novel genetic tools in mouse models. You will report directly to both Dr. Peng Li and Dr. Wenjing Wang and will work full-time onsite.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
- High School Diploma or Associate’s degree
- Minimum of six months prior laboratory experience;
- Minimum of six months in basic molecular biology (e.g. DNA gel electrophoresis and DNA purification)
- Minimum of six months experience in mouse handling
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
- Bachelor’s degree (or expected graduate) in Biology or related majors (e.g., Neuroscience, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry);
- Prior experience in the following (>6 months):
- Rodent surgeries (e.g., stereotaxic injection);
- Rodent behavioral essays;
- Mouse perfusion and tissue harvest;
- Cryosectioning;
- Immunofluorescence;
- Confocal imaging.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES*
Experimental tasks will include:
- Participate or lead an independent research project, that will include the following: stereotactic injection, in vivo drug treatment, breathing responses, tissue harvest and processing, and cryosectioning
- Perform surgeries and behavioral assays on mice;
- Conduct immunofluorescence and confocal imaging;
Non-experimental tasks will include:
- Help manage animal surgery space
- Organizing animal surgery records
