FTE: 0.6 FTE (working 22.2 hours per week)

Salary: UH7 £37,999pa to £44,421pa with potential to progress to £45,163pa by annual
increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 30 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, University of Hertfordshire
The Management Accountant is a key role providing vital professional advice and support on financial issues to the Universities various Strategic Business Units and Departments.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

You will be expected to have experience of working within a financial environment and the use of accounting packages within large/complex organisations. The role will require you to have experience of when to make decisions and when to refer to them to the Finance Manager. You will show a proven ability to communicate successfully with staff at all levels showing excellent inter-personal skills, both written and oral.
You will be expected to have excellent IT (including advanced Excel) skills with a proven record of development and achievement in the provision of management information as well as being able to display proven time management and organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities successfully ensuring reporting deadlines are met, whilst also responding to in a timely manner to ad-hoc queries.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

You must be at least a part-qualified member of a professional accounting qualification (CCAB) for this role.

Responsibilities:

You will play a key role within the SBU(s) to provide vital professional advice and support on research specific financial issues including proactively managing a portfolio of externally funded research projects from award to final submission. You will also provide Financial and Business Advice being the sole point of contact in conjunction with School Finance Managers for selected research groups. This includes regular updates of research project finances to aid delivery of research contracts.
The role will require you to prepare detailed analysis of research projects, budgets and quarterly forecasts to strict deadlines, construct and submit project submissions internally and externally reconciling auditable income and expenditure in a timely manner in line with funder guidelines, complete monthly management accounts within timescales including communication internally within the Finance team and to School management proactively highlighting issues and assist in preparing Year End financial statements in accordance with professional accounting rules.
Additionally, you will also keep financial Monitoring and Control of research awards including interrogation of financial system. This includes authorising new posts when liaising with HR partners, ensure income and expenditure up to date, accurate and compliant timesheets processed on a regular basis and assisting in arranging external audits of awards.
