Job Description
The Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder (CYBD) is a clinical research program focused on youth bipolar disorder. CYBD activities include intervention studies, observational studies, biological studies, and knowledge translation relevant to youth bipolar disorder. The focus population is youth who have bipolar disorder or who have a first degree relative with bipolar disorder.
CYBD is seeking applications for a full-time, temporary (13 months) Research Manager. The incumbent will report to the Director of CYBD and join a clinical research team working on a number of research studies examining bipolar disorder. In this position, you will be responsible for working both autonomously and in a team of research staff to achieve study targets.
The research manager will assist in study implementation and ongoing study management, as well the recruitment, training, management and supervision of staff and students. Other roles will include guiding project assignments, project management, completing performance appraisals in collaboration with the Centre’s Director, managing lab finances including creating budgets and purchasing and maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring that protocols are compliant with federal and local regulations, developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures for study conduct, and completing submissions to the Research Ethics Board, Health Canada, and Research Legal Services. The research manager will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position is located at 80 Workman Way. Some evening and weekend shifts may be required.
Job Requirements
Candidates for this position will possess a Master’s degree in health sciences, life sciences, psychology, computer sciences, or other relevant fields, and three (3) years’ of relevant experience. Previous administrative and management experience in an academic research facility is an asset. Experience in mental health or addictions research is an asset.
The position requires strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, critical ability, flexibility, and initiative. Candidates will possess the ability for self-directed learning/working, as well as collaboration and teamwork. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and supervise varied complex scientific projects is required, project management and risk management training and experience would be a definite asset. Highly developed problem solving and negotiation skills are required to critically analyze, evaluate and resolve issues or problems related to research activities often involving diverse stakeholders. A strong understanding of regulatory guidelines & research governance of human participant research (ICH GCP, TCPS2, Health Canada regulations, etc.) is required. Previous experience in training and managing research staff would be advantageous. Proficiency with computer programs including MS Office, Excel, and Outlook is required, as well as familiarity with data management software such as REDCap. Previous experience with clinical assessments (e.g. KSADS, SCID) is considered an asset. Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Please Note: This full-time, temporary (13 months) position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
