Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Research Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing investigator support services for translational research in the Divisions of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care and Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). The incumbent will work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs), research staff and others on translational research projects in the area of Hereditary Blood Disorders and Cancers and Pulmonary/Respiratory Disorders, including ongoing and prospective NIH and Department of Defense projects. This position requires a working knowledge of, or willingness to learn and abide by, applicable policies and procedures of various UW entities (UW academic staff policies and procedures and UW/UW SMPH policies) as well as applicable state and federal regulations and guidelines. It also requires the ability to distill complex scientific protocols into clear, concise, and accurate clinical research applications, consent forms, and correspondence. Most critical is the ability to manage several detailed projects simultaneously, completing projects in a timely manner and meeting strict deadlines required by review committees and boards, as well as by investigators and sponsors of translational research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong financial management, analytical and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in written and verbal forms with research sponsors, faculty, researchers and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, and computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience in human subjects research or health-care setting.
  • Knowledge of University and federal policies and procedures involving human subjects research and HIPAA regulations highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

Plans and coordinates the administrative, operational, outreach and promotional activities related to research studies that may be collaborative and independent. Serves as a subject matter expert.

  • 20% Coordinates the daily activities and contracts related to one or more research program(s)
  • 5% Assists in the development, coordination, and facilitation of trainings and workshops for internal and external audiences to disseminate research program developments and information
  • 30% Plans, develops, and implements processes and protocols to support research aims
  • 10% Serves as a unit liaison and subject matter expert among internal and external stakeholder groups, collaborates across disciplines and functional areas, provides program information, and promotes the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives
  • 5% Monitors program budget(s) and approves unit expenditures
  • 10% Develops policies, procedures, and institutional agreements on behalf of the program
  • 10% Assists in identification of grant opportunities as well as grant assembly, editing, and coordination across collaborators
  • 5% Assists in manuscript proofreading, formatting, and journal submissions
  • 5% Assists in program website and public/patient facing materials
