Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Research Nurse with experience in Children and Young people’s Services to join the Research Nursing staff in our developing Research and Innovation delivery team.
The purpose of this post is to increase the number of children and young people participating in clinical studies at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust).
The post holder will support the development of research that is aimed at improving health outcomes for children and young people including mental health services.
The post will contribute to the assessment and management of the care pathways for Children and Young People and carers participating in clinical studies.
As part of the team carrying out clinical procedures, you will contribute to the assessment and management of the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies. You will undertake recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data with focus on increasing the number of patients participating in clinical studies at Mersey are NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust).
Deploying specialist knowledge and previous experience in clinical research, you will form a key part of the Research & Innovation team, contributing to the efficient set up and delivery of research within the Trust.

  • Working as part of a MDT to assist in the management of clinical trial patients, maintaining effective communication with patients, carers & professionals to ensure high quality service delivery.
  • Managing & overseeing a portfolio of research studies across various sites.
  • Training & assessing research staff as competent in line with the research competencies framework, acting as a resource and role model for all aspects of research clinical practice to optimise patient care and clinical practice.
  • Use relevant clinical knowledge to identify patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion and exclusion criteria and utilising patient records, visiting clinics and wards and outpatients.
  • Carry out physical assessments, take blood/urine samples and process according to specific research protocol.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment options, treatment side effects & disease processes to support patients in making an informed choice. Providing ongoing information, education & support to patients regarding clinical studies & specific trial treatments & procedures.
  • Provide day to day supervision for band 5 research nurses/ research officers within the research team.
  • Implementing quality systems to ensure that the delivery of studies meet requirements with regards to relevant frameworks & participate in Good Clinical Practice training, keeping up to date with any changes in legislation or practice.
