POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The Arizona Transportation Institute (AZTI) in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics in the College of Engineering is seeking motivated applicants to fill a Research Outreach Coordinator (Research Program Administration Officer I) position.
AZTI was established by the three Arizona state universities, University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University, in 2024. The goal of AZTI is to serve as a collaborative platform to manage and oversee the allocation and utilization of federal research funds provided through the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
AZTI led by UA, is charged with the responsibility of carrying out transportation research processes that will support the transportation research needs for ADOT and for the State of Arizona. The research will produce useful information and recommendations that can address transportation concerns for ADOT, local jurisdictions, other states, and researchers, and will support the development and operations of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that facilitates the efficient, economic movement of people and goods, and supports community development and social goals.
This position will focus on coordination between internal and external audiences, event planning, and collaboration with faculty and staff members on developing and exploring research outreach programs and opportunities.
Travel within the state of Arizona is required for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication, excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and productive working relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • Experience with prioritizing multiple projects and achieving desired results and deadlines.
  • Experience working in a university, educational, or process-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with AZTI faculty members, internal and/or external stakeholders, and ADOT to coordinate activities and meetings.
  • Ensure meetings and activities adhere to timelines, are organized, and run efficiently.
  • Serve as a point of contact for information regarding the AZTI center and its goals.
  • Communicate via in-person and virtual channels and respond to requests for information in a timely and accurate matter.
  • Actively maintain a network of contacts, internal and external, and keep informed on opportunities to support the organized operations and promotion of the AZTI center.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of research programs and events, to ensure smooth operation and adherence to timelines and AZTI’s objectives.
  • Coordinate the annual state-wide Arizona Research Summit, including collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare outreach and marketing materials, (e.g., AZTI brochure and website content) working with IT and the Database Administrator’s support.
  • Manage social media for AZTI, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Distribute materials to faculty and students at the three Arizona state universities, ADOT, and local transportation agencies, such as the City of Tucson and Pima County.
  • Assist with administrative tasks for AZTI.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
