Job Description:
The Role: Research Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Clinical Trials
The Opportunity:
MaineGeneral Health is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Oncology team at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care as a Clinical Trials Research Nurse. The Oncology Clinical Trials Research RN performs clinical and administrative functions in support of the design, implementation, and management of clinical trials. You will get to work with a team of professionals who are enthusiastic and have a passion for contributing to the advancement of cancer science and treatment options.
MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care (HACCC) in Augusta, Maine is a proud partner of the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network, a coordinated system of care with the support of the Harold Alfond Foundation and in affiliation with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The HACCC staff cares for more than 12 percent of Maine’s cancer population and sees more than 7,000 individuals with a cancer diagnosis annually, including more than 1,100 newly diagnosed cases.
This position is a full-time, 36-hour position with a weekday schedule.

The Work:

  • Follows good clinical practice guidelines (GCP) by safeguarding clinical trial integrity while adhering to protocol. Ensures the safety of clinical research subjects, reporting of adverse events, and drug accountability. Coordinates audits, inspections, and monitoring by supporting auditors and implementing any necessary corrective actions.
  • Engages in subject screening, recruitment, and enrollment for clinical trials. Conducts proper consenting of study subjects and manages the activities for the study participants.
  • Performs detailed clinical assessments of study participants and coordinates clinical treatment, study visits, and follow-up care.
  • Completes case report forms (paper and electronic data capture). Collects, processes, and ships laboratory specimens according to protocol documents. Shares clinical research information and general education with patients and other healthcare professionals outside the research team.

You Have:

  • Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion, required
  • At least a year of nursing experience with oncology experience, preferred
  • Research nurse experience preferred, but willing to train the right person
  • A high attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • A passion for analyzing and applying guidance & protocol and a strong problem-solving ability
