Role summary
We are looking for a Research Scientist to conduct research in foundational Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning and support Idiap’s Research Programs. This position has a comparable level of responsibility of a Research Professor (USA) or an independent group leader (Europe). Ideal candidates will possess an academic profile commensurate with an EPFL Professeur/professeure Titulaire or Maître d’Enseignement et de Recherche. While we envision this role to be full-time, we are open to exploring flexible working arrangements.

• Assume leadership in at least one research area and conduct original and exploratory research within Idiap’s Research Programs.
• Grow and lead a research team, promote cross-disciplinary collaboration, and secure funding through successful project proposals.
• Lead externally funded research projects and supervise team members at various levels (research assistants, postdocs, research associates, and R&D developers).
• Regularly publish high-quality research findings in peer-reviewed journals, share knowledge internally through seminars and courses, and contribute to the scientific community through tutorials, workshops, and conference presentations.
• Identify opportunities for technology transfer and industrial collaborations.
• Support the institute’s goal of translating research into business opportunities.
• Initiate and participate in the development of demonstrators and prototypes.
• Contribute to initiatives that support research and innovation at the institute.
