We are currently looking for a Research scientist molecular breeder to join our Genetics and Genomics team in Schlanstedt. In this role you will be bridging the interface between our molecular marker lab and the breeding department of sugar beet, wheat and other crops of our portfolio.

YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Large scale marker data analysis in the context of marker assisted breeding and population genetics
• Performing mapping for quantitative traits using GWAS and linkage mapping
• Implementing genomic selection into breeding in close cooperation with a group of research scientists and breeders
• Analyzing sequencing data such as GBS data, for marker development of relevant breeding traits
• Developing quantitative genetics research populations together with a team of breeders, researchers and technicians to move forward the improvement of our crops
• Develop and lead internal projects across departments
• Promote, shape and lead research projects with private and public organizations

REQUIREMENTS:

• PhD or M.Sc. with focus on molecular breeding and quantitative genetics in plant breeding, animal breeding, agricultural science or related fields
• Very good knowledge of the R programming language in the context of population and quantitative genetics
• Additional programming languages as a plus
• Very good understanding of the use of molecular markers for marker-assisted selection
• Good knowledge of statistics applied to breeding
• Experience in designing trait specific markers based on sequences
• Knowledge of genomic selection and its application into breeding
• Ability to work accurately, systematically and to adapt to the seasonal fluctuations required for delivery data on time
• Experience in project lead is a plus
• Good language skills of English, German would be a plus
• Strong verbal communication skills, team oriented and collaborative working style
• Driving license of type B
