The NOC has a long-established reputation in satellite oceanography. We are currently leading the consolidation of an ESA Earth Explorer mission concept (SeaStar), and contributing to the design and implementation of ESA Scout 2 (HydroGNSS) including delivery of operational data processors and algorithms for ocean and ice remote sensing using GNSS-R. We are looking to grow our capacity and capability in this field and this post forms a key part of our ongoing strategy.
About the role
This role is based in the Satellite Oceanography group in Southampton and focuses on carrying out research in Earth Observation (EO) and its applications to marine science.
Initially, the primary focus will be on the design and development of production-grade software for processing and analysis of GNSS Reflectometry (GNSS-R) data, but the role may also include interactions with other EO technologies. The post holder will seek to achieve rapid uptake and impact of Earth Observation data in environmental science.
About you
You will have skills and experience in research, scientific software development, manipulation of large datasets, scientific writing, and creativity in design of new EO data processing algorithms, including machine learning. You will have previous experience of developing robust and reusable software for data processing and analysis, in both Python and MATLAB. You will be independent and self-motivated, with a desire to collaborate across research and engineering groups at NOC.

Location
This position will be based in Southampton. The centre is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking with over 40 EV charging points.
