Description:
This role is ideal for someone with a passion for research software engineering, data science or machine learning looking to use and develop their skills to make an impact on research. This role is jointly funded by the Alan Turing Institute and Centre for Machine Intelligence and will initially spend up to 50% of time on virtual secondment working on ATI projects.
The post is available in the growing Research Software Engineering (RSE) Team. We’re looking for people with a passion for applying AI/ML techniques to address research questions. As part of the RSE Team you will be motivated by (and have an opportunity to develop skills in) facilitating collaborative software development and reproducible research, and an interest in getting involved with research projects across the whole of the University of Sheffield.
The RSE team at Sheffield was established in 2016 and receives the support of a senior steering group and reports also to the Open Research Advisory Group led by the organisation’s head of research. The RSE team is based within the department of computer science, however many of the team spend much of their time collaborating with specific research groups, across the university. The team is supported by the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Physics and IT Services who are committed to delivering a self-sustaining RSE capability which enhances the university’s capability and expertise in developing research software. The team currently has 11 full-time members but is partnered with IT services in delivering support for data analytics.
