Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology seeks an experienced Full Time Research Specialist to work on two grant funded research projects. This individual will split time between two active laboratory programs, both located in Connaway Hall.
This individual will be responsible for carrying out a variety of planned experiments and conducting various analyses under the supervision of the PIs. They will also participate in data analysis, record keeping, and assist in the preparation of reports and manuscripts.
Work in the Brown lab will consist primarily of culturing Borrelia burgdorferi and using these cultures to infect mice. Mice will be sacrificed at various time points and tissues will be removed for processing and analysis. Various cellular and biochemical assays, such as flow cytometry and ELISAs will be used to measure immune responses to infection. In some experiments, mice will be treated with various immune modulators to identify critical pathways of disease pathogenesis. The individual will work alongside Dr Brown to perform data analysis and interpretation and in the preparation of manuscripts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must have BS degree in a Biology- related field. Candidates should have experience working with:

  • Mice
  • Viruses
  • Cell Cultures

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

  • Molecular Biology Techniques (such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, cloning, etc)
  • Flow Cytometry
  • Working with insects
  • Experience with other biochemical assays
