POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Research Support Officer to assist in the strategic and day-to-day operations of the Cancer Research @UCC centre, providing essential support to the Centre Manager. This role also plays a key part in advancing Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) initiatives in collaboration with the CRF-UCC, ensuring meaningful engagement between researchers and the community.

Cancer Research @UCC, a translational cancer research centre at the University College Cork’s College of Medicine & Health, is dedicated to improving cancer outcomes and saving lives through innovative preclinical and clinical cancer research. The centre is primarily located on the 4th floor of the Western Gateway Building and collaborates with cancer researchers at UCC, nationally, and internationally, as well as with affiliated regional hospitals and cancer clinical trials units. It serves as the academic home for the HRB-supported UCC Cancer Trials Group and the UCC branch of the Blood Cancer Network of Ireland (BCNI). Their research areas include cancer biology, microbiome, synthetic biology, precision oncology clinical trials, and cancer outcomes research. Clinical trials are a core focus, striving to enhance the patient experience and provide equitable access to innovative trials. The centre’s long-term goal includes the development of a regional UCC/CUH Cancer Institute in alignment with the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI), emphasizing quality patient care, education, and research integration.

The Clinical Research Facility Cork is a collaboration between University College Cork and the Health Research Board. It was established to promote excellence in the design, safe conduct and analysis of patient-focused research. It provides the necessary space, expertise and equipment to allow medical professionals in Munster to work at the very cutting edge of clinical research. The Facility provides a gateway that allows local researchers to integrate with the research work of colleagues both nationally and internationally and to ensure that the most current advances in treatment are available in Cork. The CRF-UCC supports research undertaken through UCC and affiliated hospitals, as well as in the primary care setting. It is funded by the HRB and is operated as a joint venture with UCC, CUH and MUH.
