RESEARCH SUPPORT SPECIALIST III

We are seeking a Research Specialist III - Rodent Behavioral and Physiological Phenotyping Technician for our Insourcing Solutions site in Baltimore, MD.

The essential duties of the Research Support Specialist III are:

  • These duties may include working with other species.
  • Interface with research staff to assist with logistics and scheduling of projects and conduct research and laboratory support services as directed.
  • Conduct behavioral phenotyping on rats to assess locomotor, cognitive, sensory, and emotional function. Tests may include (but are not limited to): gait analysis, home cage activity detection, rotarod, and grip strength.
  • Maintain all related logs and spreadsheets for data storage.
  • Comply with safety policies, procedures and SDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.
  • Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed.
  • Conducts animal work without the use of perfumed products i.e. soap, lotion, shampoo, laundry detergent, etc. as these may have a negative impact on reliability of results in longitudinal studies.
  • Handles large, aged rats gently and calmly.
