QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related science or equivalent skills and related experience, and 2 to 4 1/2 years of related experience.
- Experience with stem cell culture and genomic editing techniques advantageous but not essential
- Experience in a lab managerial role advantageous but not required

This Research Technician C will work as part of the New York Center for Rare Diseases (NYCRD). They will perform cell culture, including maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their in vitro differentiation. They will perform CRISPR editing of cell lines, including to replicate variants identified in NYCRD patients, and will perform appropriate functional studies to test whether the variants are causing damage. The person appointed to the role will also perform RT-PCR to check for splicing defects, PCR to validate the results of whole genome sequencing, and will learn to prepare libraries for massively-parallel DNA and RNA sequencing. They will monitor the cell culture environment for infectious agents that could potentially contaminate cultures, and will manage the supplies and general organization of the cell culture space. They will maintain the equipment of the main laboratory and the organization and cleanliness of that space. They will maintain an electronic laboratory notebook and electronic documents representing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols for the laboratory. The position requires being on-site. Responsibilities:
- The Research Technician will have the ability to develop cell lines, perform genomic editing, cellular differentiation, and functional assays to test the effects of variants observed in patient genomes. Strengths will include the following:
- Cell culture
- Molecular techniques: assays of DNA and RNA and other molecular techniques as required
- Quality assessment for all experimental assays
- Instrument and assay validation
- Maintain laboratory documentation in electronic format.
- Perform routine laboratory operation tasks.
- Develop and maintain SOPs and worksheets for assays and routine laboratory operation in electronic format.
- Reporting tasks to colleagues and supervisor informally several times per week, and formally in lab meeting weekly
