ABOUT THE PROJECT
At the Laboratory of Experimental Virology (Department of Medical Microbiology, Amsterdam UMC), both basic and translational HIV research is performed.
Basic research focuses on several steps in the viral replication cycle, such as regulation of viral gene expression and HIV RNA processing, as well as on dissection of the biology of the HIV reservoir in infected individuals. Translational research focuses on the development of an HIV vaccine and novel strategies to inhibit HIV replication. Basic and translational research is intermingled to complement each other.
This project focuses on dissection of the active HIV reservoir (HIV-infected cells that transcribe viral RNA) in people with HIV and on pre-clinical testing of novel strategies towards an HIV cure.
