OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The lab is seeking a Research Technician II (RT II) to join our team. The main responsibility of this person is to manage mouse colonies and perform a variety of duties related to mouse husbandry, as well as, general molecular/cellular biology work.

EDUCATION

Work generally requires a bachelor’s degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.

Essential Physical Job Functions: Certain jobs at Duke University and Duke University Health System may include essentialjob functions that require specific physical and/or mental abilities. Responsibilities:

  • Mouse colonies maintenance: planning and setting up breeding cages, genotyping and keeping accurate records.
  • Assistance in mouse experiments: measure tumor size and mouse weight; assist in drug administration (gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutanous injections, etc.); perform survival surgeries (ovariectomy); euthanize mice when needed.
  • General molecular and cell biology work: quantitative PCR, western blotting, IHC, IF.
  • Additional duties may include: prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions; maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with the training of entry-level personnel in the lab.
  • Review literature.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
