Responsibilities:
We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Technician to be based in the Human Islet Isolation Facility at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (OCDEM), Churchill Hospital. The Islet Facility operates as part of the NHS commissioned UK Nationwide Human Islet Isolation programme, producing GMP grade human islets for transplantation, under regulation of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA). In addition to taking part in human pancreatic islet isolation and transplantation, there will be an opportunity to carry out research under the supervision of a senior scientist. The Group’s translational research has the overall aim of optimising islet isolation and transplantation to reach our ultimate goal of reversing diabetes in children soon after diagnosis. The cutting-edge bench-to-bedside research have resulted in the Oxford Islet Transplant Research Group holding international standing amongst the islet isolation and transplantation communities. Funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) the successful candidate will also take responsibility for distributing research grade islets to scientists researching type 1 diabetes, in addition to improving, maintaining and updating the islet database to ensure equitable distribution of research islets, whilst recording disposal of islet preparations in accordance with HTA requirements.
