JOB SUMMARY

The employee’s primary duties require advanced knowledge in neuroscience, as reflected by prolonged, specialized, intellectual instruction and study. These duties include but are not limited to: experiments using transgenic mouse models; cell and molecular assays; advanced imaging techniques; performing behavioral tests and small animal surgery; analyzing and interpreting data and coordinating with PI on research plans. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Carry out behavioral tests according to established protocols in the lab. Perform immunohistochemistry, PCR, real time PCR, western blotting, tissue culture, brain surgeries, behavioral testing, and microscopic analysis. Maintain detailed records of all procedures according to prescribed formatting. Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings. General management for labs and perform other duties as assigned.
This position is 100% onsite (no telework)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization supplemented by two years of college level work in the physical and/or biological sciences, and experience in performing diagnostic laboratory tests and examinations in the specialized area assigned to work.

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, visual acuity, and fine motor control.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Able to write legibly, work safely around biological materials, wash glassware and appropriately handle sharps, remember storage location for lab items, and monitor lab inventory and supplies. All experimental outcomes exhibit variation over a 24hr cycle, so the successful candidate must be capable of arriving on time and maintaining a set schedule. Research in the Stranahan lab involves animal models of progressive disease. Research animals are very sensitive to smell; therefore, staff are not permitted to wear perfume, cologne, aftershave, or other strongly scented personal care products.
