JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a research assistant for Dr. Alka Khaitan, a physician scientist and Principal Investigator within the Wells Center for Pediatric Research, Center for Infectious Diseases and Global Health with research interests in immunology, pediatric HIV, and global health. The primary research focus of the Khaitan laboratory is to understand the role of inflammation and immune exhaustion in perinatal HIV outcomes and as barriers to HIV cure.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Works with Dr. Khaitan on multiple projects within the laboratory, ranging from bench work to data organization.
  • Responsible for performing immunology-based experiments along with maintaining lab supplies, equipment, databases and biological samples for research. Experimental methods used in the lab include flow cytometry, in vitro cell culture and functional assays, ELISA, multiplex assays, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
  • Performs a wide variety of immunology-based lab experiments including high-parameter flow cytometry, in vitro cell culture, ELISA and multiplex assays (Luminex/Magpix).
  • Maintains organized records of experimental data.
  • Interprets and analyzes experimental tadat.
  • Orders lab supplies and maintains lab inventory and equipment.
  • Organizes and maintains lab databases using Excel.
  • Maintains biological samples for research.
  • Orients and provides guidance to new lab members/students.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Organizes analytical data of performed experiments.
  • May submit findings for publication.
  • Installs and maintains research equipment.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • Trains junior-level staff.
  • Plans experiments and short-term goals.
  • May require travel in order to service various research sites.
