BSD OBA - Marlow Lab
About the Department
The Marlow lab at the University of Chicago seeks a Research Technician to work in a laboratory studying mechanisms of gene regulation and single cell biology. The position will be available immediately and in accordance with an agreed upon start date with a qualified candidate.
Job Summary
The job provides technical support activities related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.
Responsibilities
- Development of fixed and live cell preparation for single cell assays.
- Design scRNA-seq workflows in a laboratory with established expertise in this domain.
- Will work with PhD students and Postdocs to support their single-cell and CRISPR experiments.
- Will interface with an international, multidisciplinary team to share experience, results and to set short and long-term objectives of the project.
- Oversight, organization and carrying-out of general laboratory tasks and animal care of marine invertebrates.
- Assists with the installation, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.

- Experience with basic molecular biology.
- Some bioinformatic analysis skill is R and/or Python.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Organizational skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Ability to carefully document experiments and generate step by step written and/or video protocols and workflows to be shared with collaborating teams.
