Description:
We seek applications from enthusiastic and highly motivated scientists with a keen interest in rare disease genetics and/or ribosomal biology and/or pre-clinical drug screening for a 0.5 FTE Research Technician position funded by a 18 month LifeArc Philanthropic award. In prior work we have identified that mutations in translation factor eIF5A1 cause abnormal neurodevelopment (PMID: 33547280) and ribosomal dysfunction in a newly described condition called Faundes-Banka Syndrome (FABAS; OMIM #619376). We are screening zebrafish models for therapeutic compounds that can improve disease outcomes. To assess translational relevance, we aim to test candidate compounds in patient cell lines.
The successful candidate will assist with our cell culture strategy and play a central role in optimising and running in vitro compound screening experiments. You should hold a good BSc in a relevant biological science and possess strong evidence of independent working with cell culture and molecular biology techniques, including western blotting.
