ABOUT US

We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk).
The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research.
MRC and UCL have jointly invested £30 million in provision of a dedicated new building in central London for the Institute supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.
The Institute is headed by Professor John Collinge FRS, and comprises MRC, UCL and grant funded clinicians, scientists, research/technical staff and professional services staff.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate should have extensive experience bioinformatics, analysis of RNA-seq data, mammalian cell culture and western blotting.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician to join our team.
The post-holder will be funded by a grant “Elucidating the factors required for propagating human Creutzfeldt - Jakob Disease prions” from the CJD Foundation.
The post-holder will be recruited to Programme 2: Cell biology and function of the prion protein in health and disease headed by Professor Parmjit Jat.

The post-holder will work closely with colleagues in Programme 2 to identify the cellular factors that are required in addition to the cellular prion protein for propagating human Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) prions.

  • An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role
  • This is a fixed-term role until 31st December 2025 in the first instance
