Description:
The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Research Trainee position. The one-year position can be part-time or full-time, with the option to work remotely (within Finland). The starting date can be during February or as agreed. Please find more information below and submit your application no later than 31 January 2025.
REQUIREMENTS
- An MSc student in Computer Science or a related field
- Completed basic/intermediate level AI courses
- Experience/proficiency with Python and relevant libraries, e.g., PyTorch, NumPy
- Excellent/good skills in spoken and written English
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic MSc student to join our research team, CNIR , as a Research Trainee. Our project, which integrates transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroencephalography (EEG), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to develop personalized treatment protocols for depression, has received funding from the Research Council of Finland and the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation.
In this project, which is implemented jointly with Aalto University and Helsinki University Hospital, artificial intelligence (AI) plays a critical role in determining TMS treatment protocols. The project aims to significantly enhance personalized brain stimulation by integrating advanced AI-based diagnostic tools.
In this role, you will learn and develop methods to study brain connectivity using AI. Brain connectivity is derived from diffusion MRI-based tractography and will be used to investigate how connectivity patterns change in the depressed brain. This information will later be applied to optimize TMS treatment protocols, advancing personalized care and improving outcomes for individuals with depression.
As our new Research Trainee, your main responsibilities will include
- investigating and developing our existing AI-model that is used for studying structural connections of the brain
- helping with the development of our computational neuroimaging software (https://dmritrekker.github.io)
Join us!
If you are curious about how the brain is wired and excited to explore AI’s potential to study the brain and transform depression treatment, we encourage you to apply! The position will be filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a specific project task. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is based on level 1 (EUR 2.023,87/month) of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a minimum of 6% and a maximum of 50% of the job-related salary element. The estimated salary for full-time position will be in the range of EUR 2,226- 2,469/month at the beginning of the employment.
