Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering offers industry relevant and up to date programmes in the areas of Audio Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The main purpose of the role is to contribute to the delivery of an EPSRC-funded project which aims to design a specialised communication architecture for 6G networks, integrating sensing functionalities and robust security measures. The project is funded by EPSRC and will be delivered in collaboration with the University of Glasgow and Coventry University. The Research Associate (RA) will mainly work on WP1 of the project which focuses on to exploring and enhancing the communication aspects of joint communication and sensing (JCAS) in the context of 6G networks. This is in addition to the integration of sensing (WP3) and security (WP2) into the proposed communication architectures.

The duties and responsibilities will include;

  • Carry out network modelling and analysis to develop, test and validate the new algorithm in the context of joint communication, sensing and security.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team of researchers, and academics from Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Glasgow and Coventry University.

Implementation of 6G enabled live video streaming testbed using reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) with capabilities to integrate sensing and security features being developed at the Coventry and Glasgow University, respectively.
We are looking for an RA with an Electrical Engineering background, preferably communication systems, with a PhD level qualification in the subject and hands on experience on RIS. Applicants must be confident in their own abilities, be happy to take initiative and work independently as well as being a team player and should demonstrate good communication skills.
The RA should demonstrate understanding of various communication equipment, such as RIS and software defined radios (SDRs), especially USRP x310 and x300. Further, the applicant should have a basic understanding of 5G/6G and WiFi protocols and basic knowledge of radio frequency (RF) sensing and security (physical layer security (PLS)). They will also have extensive experience with programming languages like MATLAB, Python, and C++.
