We are looking for a Researcher to join our Library at House of Lords. You will be responsible for drafting accurate, impartial, and balanced briefing material on a range of subjects, including science and technology. This is also a position where you will have regular interactions with members of the House. Your core duties will include providing a professional and well-informed customer service as part of the rota for the research enquiry desk in the House of Lords Library in the Palace of Westminster.
The rota runs from 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday on sitting days. Additionally, you will need to be available to participate in the evening rota, when the House is sitting. This runs from 5:30pm to 10pm, or until the House rises for the day. It can be completed remotely. An additional allowance is payable for evening rota work.
Your work will be informed by your existing knowledge of sources, the Library’s printed and online resources, and contacts in government and external organisations. Therefore, you will need to keep yourself up to date on relevant policy issues.
The role requires onsite working with opportunities to work from home.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of enquiries and research papers on all subjects and in-person time with members, all combined with a great working environment and a supportive team.
If this sounds like something you would like to hear more about, please apply below.
IT WOULD BE EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAD OR IF YOU’RE WILLING TO LEARN…
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Parliament, particularly about the legislative process, role of the House of Lords and the needs of its members.
- Excellent knowledge of current affairs and experience using authoritative sources in your work.
- Willingness to learn and a commitment to, and proactivity in, own and others’ development.
