Come create the technology that helps the world act together as a Nokia Bell Labs Researcher.
The team you’ll be part of belongs to Bell Labs Core Research (BLCR) within Strategy and Technology. In the BLCR Radio Systems Research lab you’ll carry out groundbreaking research at our Stuttgart site in design of wireless air interfaces and access networks, performance assessment (system simulation) and prototyping. You can bring strong research knowledge and expertise to a cross-disciplinary team.

What you will learn and contribute to:

  • Contribute to the definition of radio access network technical foundations for research programs, project objectives and work plans.
  • Key focus in your position will be on radio access for wireless communication in unlicensed bands, with focus on shaping the future Wi-Fi protocols emerging from the IEEE 802.11 family of standards.
  • Drive optimization of Wi-Fi networks with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods.

  • Proposing and publishing research in major research forums worldwide.
  • Establishing strong cross-collaborations with Nokia business units focusing on Wi-Fi products, solutions and standards.
  • Creating and maintaining strong collaborative associations with university-based researchers, other leading research bodies, product business units and government agencies.
  • Generate Intellectual Properties Rights.

Your skills and experience

You have:

  • A PhD degree in Communication Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a related discipline with expert knowledge in wireless communications.
  • Specific experience in wireless access networks and protocols, especially based on IEEE 802.11 family of standards.
  • Experience in performance analysis or simulations, radio channel and traffic modelling, performance study; with programming Skills in Python and associated AI/ML libraries, and/or Matlab.
  • Experience in usage of algorithms, including AI/ML.
  • Track record of publications, projects and/or patents.
  • Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to interdisciplinary, team-oriented projects. Ability to work in a collaborative environment amongst business as well as academic partners. Highly engaged and hands-on personality, versatile and a self-starter.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, can express yourself fluently in English. German language skills are helpful but not required.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Deeper knowledge in Wi-Fi 6, 7 or 8.
  • Further Programming Skills in Scripting Tools, Linux Environment, Shell Scripting, C/C++.
