We are hiring a reservoir engineer in our MacKay River Subsurface Engineering team! In this role, you will safely and sustainably maximize exploitation of MacKay River bitumen resource. You will also have an opportunity to support Firebag in the same capacity for a period of time.
You will be part of a SAGD Well Optimization Team (SWOT) responsible to monitor SAGD well operating trends, recommend operational adjustments, opportunity identification and workover planning, sidetrack well planning, and manage non-condensable gas and steam injection targets to support Operations. You will optimize area scheme performance and deliver on area production budget commitment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Engineering or Geoscience
  • Subsurface technical skillset
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills able to work with diverse disciplines and perspectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present ideas and results to all levels of management

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, predict, plan, and optimize performance of the SAGD scheme
  • Surveillance of observation wells and process trends to understand the reservoir and manage steam allocation and operating pressures within defined targets and safe operating limits
  • Identify potential bottlenecks or challenges based on issues such as steam and natural gas availability, artificial lift, wellbore design and well integrity
  • Artificial Lift Design
  • Candidate selection for well workovers and stimulations
  • Maintain regulatory compliance
  • Lead risk reviews and manage change
  • Collaboration with Operations, Geoscience, Development, Process Engineering, Regulatory, and Wells teams to manage your assigned well pads

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
